Peppermint essential oil has a very powerful menthol aroma and must be diluted. In its pure form, peppermint is too sharp to inhale and can cause irritation to the skin. When diluted and used as an inhalant, peppermint is an excellent remedying for anger, nervousness and depression. Mint is known for its stimulant, antiseptic and cooling properties. It is nature's own pick-me-up and calm-me-down.
In addition to medicinal properties, peppermint has an interesting history dating back to ancient times. In a Greek myth, the god Pluto took a fancy to a young nymph named Menthe. When Pluto's wife, Persephone, got wind of this, she relentlessly pursued the poor young woman and trod her into the ground. Upon hearing of Menthe’s fate, Pluto transformed her into a herb—known today as peppermint.
Uses: Mint is an excellent way to revitalize and refresh using a steam inhaler or in a bath.
Cautionary Note: Avoid peppermint during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
