wild silk scarf - natural
Our wild silk scarves are handmade from silk produced by silkworms bred in the endemic tapia forest of Madagascar. The yarn is hand spun and dyed with natural dyes making each product unique.
Silk is highly regarded in Malagasy culture as it is a sign of nobility but the tapia forest are under threat as a result of deforestation through bush fires, wood collection and invasion by alien vegetation.
The production and sale of wild silk items contribute to saving the tapia forest and assist the households who earn a living from the production of wild silk and manufacture of wild silk products.
